It is just a reality -- our program has high expectations. When 15u-17u Gamers show up to play summer baseball on late May, we expect you to be in shape. But, it is hard for a high school baseball player in St. Louis to stay in shape. Too much bad weather and not enough practices as you move into May. For most high school players, the focus has turned to playing games and not achieving fitness levels required to play at the next level. WE EXPECT GAMERS TO BE DIFFERENT. WE EXPECT YOU TO SHOW UP IN SHAPE IN LATE MAY.
You need to be in great cardio shape. We will test this during the mini-camp. You will need to run 10 poles in 30 seconds, with 30 second rest periods on the SLU warning track. You will need to prepare for his. Start running at least a month in advance to get ready for this fitness test. You can do this after your high school games and practices. It will set an example for other players. Your core needs to be in shape. WE EXPECT THE FIRST SET OF ABS TO LOOK EXACTLY LIKE WEEK 12 OF THE WINTER WORKOUT. That means that everyone is doing the ab routine, with proper form, for the entire time alloted. You need to start doing the ab routine on your own to prepare for this. Finally, your arm needs to be in shape. We need pitchers that will throw strikes and get to their pitch count limits efficiently without soreness. We need position players to play 4-5 games over a weekend without gettting a sore arm. Start working NOW to make sure that you do not have a sore arm in late May. |

The Gamers Winter baseball practices prepare our 12u-14u players for the upcoming season, and our 15u-17u players for the high school season. The Gamers winter program is EXCLUSIVELY for Gamers players -- only players that are on the active team rosters. Outside players are not allowed to participate in Gamers winter practices. In addition, the Winter baseball practices are exclusively run by the Gamers coaching staff. There are no outside coaches. It is run by the same coaches that will be coaching the players when the Summer season starts (April for 12-14u, June for high school players).

Our first Super Bowl party was a GREAT success. Over 200 attendees, a great Super Bowl game, a wonderful venue, and lots of great food and fun. The was a combination social event plus fundraiser, and it scored a touchdown on both fronts. Special thanks go out to the 15u Gray team and the 17u Gray team for hosting the event and doing all the hard work. In addition the following organizations helped sponsor the event: Carpenters Union (thanks to Sandy Doak) A-B/InBev (thanks to Jeff Pitts) McDonalds (thanks to Deanne Buckman) Goedekers Superstore (thanks to the Goedeker family) We are fortunate to have such a wonderful network of friends and supporters. |

What does it take to be a Gamer??? All Gamer players are invited to a clinic on Sunday, Feb. 25th at 6pm at ASP to hear from a current big league player. Kyle McClellan, Cardinals pitcher, will talk to our players about what it takes to be a Gamer. From MLB.COM bio of Kyle McClellan: Graduated from Hazelwood West (Mo.) High School in 2002...lettered in baseball, football and basketball...his brother, Matt, served as his high school pitching coach...was Missouri All- State selection as both a pitcher and first baseman in both his junior and senior seasons...enjoys hunting and fishing...he and his wife, Bridget, were married this past off-season...they make their home in Maryland Heights, Mo.

The Gamers directors just completed the first 2009 academic review. We individually reviewed report cards and goal sheets for all 170 Gamers. And, every single player received a personal email or phone call about his grades. Our players are student-athletes -- and the student part comes first. The Academic Review Process serves two purposes: 1. It emphasizes to players that academics are more important than sports. And, they hear this message from people who played in sports and academics at the highest levels. 2. Academic achievement is an incredibly important ingredient to playing college baseball. We take this process VERY seriously. If a program does not emphasize academics, then they are simply not preparing players for college baseball. Ask any college baseball coach. Our Gamers players are doing a great job in academics. Our first class of players, 2010, currently has a cumulative high school GPA of 3.6. And, very high PSAT, ACT and SAT scores are starting to roll in. This is setting a high standard for our program, and the 2011 and 2012 classes are not far behind. |

Over half of our 15u-17u Gamers have been actively involved in a weightlifting program over the past 3 months. Parkway West was kind enough to let us use their weight room to test strength levels. We tested in September and again in November. The results were very impressive: 15u players increased strength levels by 37% 16u players increased strength levels by 41% 17u players increased strength levels by an incredible 61% We are looking for similar rates of improvement over the next 3 months. Is there another baseball program that you know of that has a weightlifting program for high school players, designed by a MLB trainer, and regularly tests players to make sure they are making progress? It is another area that separates the Gamers program. |

The Gamers program held a showcase event for our 17u players on November 2nd. We have 34 players in this age group. Over 30 college coaches and pro scouts attend the event. It was a great opportunity for both our players and the coaches. A list of colleges represented is show below. Our 17u players are now deeply engaged in the college baseball process. They have developed lists of 24-30 target colleges and have started communications with those colleges. Matt Whiteside, Scott Cooper and Dave Pregon are very involved in the process -- both in helping players establish achievable goals and directly communicating with college coaches.

We are looking for players that are a good fit with the two elements of the Gamers mission statement: 1. Competing at the highest level nationally 2. Using baseball as platform to teach important life lessons These two elements of our mission set a pretty high standard for players. To fully benefit from our program, a player needs two things -- baseball talent/skills to compete at a high level AND the mental make-up to fit with the Gamers culture and life lesson program. Specifically, we are looking for the following attributes in Gamers players: 1. Baseball talent/skills - Athleticism - Five tools - running, throwing, fielding, hitting (power, control), pitching 2. Gamer Qualities - Ability and willingness to apply baseball instruction - Passion, energy and enthusiasm for baseball - Competitiveness - Mental toughness - Work ethic - Leadership, team skills Players that that have these attributes will flourish in the Gamers program. |

Parents play an important role in the Gamer culture. As a program, we have spent a lot of time talking about the expectations of parents. These expectations are embodied in the Positive Coaching Alliance Parent Pledge which every parent in the Gamers program is required to read and sign. We take this very seriously. While we recognize that people sometimes make mistakes, we will not tolerate recurring failure to meet these expectations. The mission, values and culture of the Gamers program are too important. Parent Pledge |

Learning how to set group and personal goals is an important life lesson that can be learned from baseball. Our 13u and 14u Gamers have just completed a process of learning how to set good goals. This was supported by audio programs in the Gamers Skills Clinic. We are looking for goals that are: |
